Burslem bloke and lifelong Port Vale fan Dennis Hancock is rapidly declining in middle age and sinking into the ranks of the long-term unemployed. In desperation, he answers an ad in the local paper for an artist’s model and discovers unexpected friends in troubled young artist Kat Drosdzowski and her overbearing parents.
